Abstract
We examine the measurement of polarization with categorical and ordinal data. This isparticularly useful in many contexts where cardinal data are not available. The new measureswe propose are axiomatically characterized. The empirical application on Chilean data showthat the rankings obtained are substantially different when compared to standardpolarization and inequality measures.
