CPRC Partners
The CPRC in India has been led by the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA) and includes the Gujarat Institute of Development Research, the Jawaharlal Nehru University and the National Council of Applied Economic Research. The IIPA is also the national professional institution for gender budgeting.
Research
CPRC India’s efforts have focused on raising awareness and deepening understanding of chronic poverty through engaging with national-level policy makers, especially in the Planning Commission and the Ministry of Rural Development. The CPRC team in India have contributed to the 11th five-year plan (2007-2012) and its mid-term appraisal.
Research has maintained an interest in social protection thus monitoring the implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act. Research has also focused on policy responses and evaluating programmes and schemes while particularly considering those in remote rural, forested and tribal areas, those in conflict areas, and socially disadvantaged groups.
Using panel data, CPRC India has contributed to work on the estimates of the extent of chronic poverty in India over recent decades. The CPRC-IIPA working paper series also brings knowledge to ‘multi-dimensional poverty’ in an Indian context, chronic poverty and agriculture, economic growth, ill health and entry into poverty, especially in the context of HIV/AIDS and its gendered impact.
